Business is booming. This month I have five speaking engagements – 4 are IRL: In Real Life.
One trip is to Chicago. I’m reminded of a previous flight to the “Windy City,” where I sat next to a young man who was a private pilot. He taught me three valuable life lessons–literally!
- Anxiety is the enemy of performance. Use your checklist in an emergency. If you rely on your brain only during an emergency, you will miss a step and die. Don’t think! Rely on your checklist.
- Passivity kills! Be proactive rather than passive. When you are passive with a plane, this is when trouble strikes. Oil may be low, and the engine stops. Storms happen unexpectedly.
- Don’t abdicate your responsibility to others. He did a pre-check flight inspection on a plane that had previously crashed in a soybean field. They replaced the engine, which is good. But this was all that they did. However, he was still suspicious and proceeded cautiously. Upon taking off, one of the two rudders came off. He saved his life because he was proactive, used his checklist, and did not blindly rely on others. You are responsible for your own life.
See you on stage,
Ed
